Notes
The notification by Canada to the WTO under Article 63.2 of TRIPS states:
'[Act to amend the Copyright Act (access to copyrighted works or other subject-matter for persons with perceptual disabilities) (previously known as 'Bill C-11')] amended the sections of the Copyright Act that set out exceptions to copyright infringement for persons with perceptual disabilities (i.e., sections 32 and 32.01 of the Act – see also the new section 32.02), as well as the sections of the Act that set out exceptions for persons with perceptual disabilities to the prohibitions against circumventing technological protection measures (TPMs or 'digital locks') (i.e., section 41.16).
The amendments contained in the Amendment Act were designed to enable Canada to accede to the World Intellectual Property Organization Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled (Marrakesh Treaty). Canada acceded to the Marrakesh Treaty on June 30, 2016. The treaty came into force internationally on September 30, 2016.'
