Year of Version 2004 Dates Entry into force: December 1, 2000 Adopted: July 8, 2000 Type of Text IP-related Laws   Subject Matter Plant Variety Protection Subject Matter (secondary) Other Notes This Seed Law was adopted by the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress and promulgated by the Order No. 34 of the President of the People’s Republic of China on July 8, 2000, and amended by the Decision on Amending the Seed Law of the People's Republic of China, adopted by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on August 28, 2004.
This revised version of the Seed Law includes the amendments of its Articles 17 and 33 made by the said Decision.

The Seed Law is divided into 11 chapters and 78 articles.
Article 12 of Chapter III on Selection and Verification of Varieties provides the system of protecting new plant varieties.
