Year of Version 2011 Dates Amended up to: July 22, 2011 Entry into force: November 8, 1949 Promulgated: November 7, 1949 Type of Text Constitution/Basic Law Subject Matter Other Notes This consolidated version 2011 of the Constitution takes into account amendments up to Law No. 8952 of June 21, 2011, on Amendments to Article 64 of the Political Constitution of the Republic of Costa Rica, which entered into force on July 22, 2011. The Constitution contains provisions related to intellectual property. Article 47 of the Constitution assures every author, inventor, producer or merchant the temporary enjoyment of his work, invention, trademark or trade name. Article 89 refers to State cultural policy, including, among others, the preservation and development of the historic and artistic wealth of the Nation and the support of private initiatives for scientific and artistic progress. Article 121(18) provides that the Legislative Assembly shall have the power to promote the progress of science and the arts by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.
