Year of Version 2013 Dates Adopted: October 23, 2008 Type of Text Main IP Laws Subject Matter Trademarks, Geographical Indications, Enforcement of IP and Related Laws, IP Regulatory Body Notes The Law of Turkmenistan No. 221-III of October 23, 2008, on Trademarks, Service Marks and Appellations of Origin is divided into 3 chapters and 53 Articles: general provisions (Chapter I, Articles 1-2); trademarks (Chapter II, Articles 3-30); and appellations of origin (Chapter III, Articles 31-53).
This consolidated version of Law incorporates all the amendments up to the Law of Turkmenistan No. 14-IV of June 22, 2013, on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Turkmenistan (the 'Amendment Law'), which entered into force on July 4, 2013.
Changes to the Law made by the 'Amendment Law' are the following:
In Articles 1 (23, 25) and 2 (1.1), the words “Patent Department of the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan” are replaced with the words “the State Service for Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan” (“Turkmenpatent”).
