Year of Version 1997 Dates Adopted: November 26, 1997 Type of Text IP-related Laws Subject Matter Copyright and Related Rights (Neighboring Rights) Notes The National Film and Video Foundation Act 1997 provides for the creation of the National Film and Video Foundation and determines its objectives and functions.
Section 3(c) & (d) provides the objectives of the Foundation, which are, inter alia: to encourage the development and distribution of local film and video products, and support the development of and access to the film and video industry.
Section 4 (1) & (2) indicates that the Foundation may provide support to persons and institutions involved in the field of film and video industry, and may liaise locally and internationally with interested partners, including the Independent Broadcasting Authority.
Furthermore, the National Film and Video Foundation which acts through its Council may, with the approval of the Minister of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology and by notice in the Gazette, issue regulations regarding different necessary or expedient matters in order to achieve the objectives of this Act. (Section 21 (1)).
Section 22 of this Act states that it takes effect on a date determined by the President by proclamation in the Gazette.
