WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty

Entry into Force

The Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to notify him that the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty will enter into force on

May 20, 2002,

that is, three months after the deposit by thirty States of their instruments of accession or ratification.

In this connection, it is recalled that instruments of ratification or accession of the said Treaty were deposited:

- on March 13, 1998, by the Republic of Moldova
- on July 15, 1998, by the Republic of Belarus
- on October 20, 1998, by the Republic of El Salvador
- on November 27, 1998, by the Republic of Hungary
- on March 17, 1999, by the Republic of Panama
- on July 19, 1999, by Burkina Faso
- on September 14, 1999, by the United States of America
- on November 17, 1999, by the United Mexican States
- on November 19, 1999, by the Argentine Republic
- on November 19, 1999, by the Republic of Slovenia
- on November 24, 1999, by Saint Lucia
- on January 14, 2000, by the Slovak Republic
- on March 22, 2000, by the Republic of Latvia
- on May 23, 2000, by the Republic of Costa Rica

Consequently, in accordance with the provision of Article 29 of the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty, the said Treaty will enter into force on May 20, 2002, with respect to the thirty States referred to above.
