International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants
of December 2, 1961, as revised at Geneva on November 10, 1972, and on October 23, 1978

Notification Under Article 34(2) of the 1978 Act by the French Republic

The Secretary-General of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) presents his compliments to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and has the honor to inform him of the receipt, on November 10, 1981, of the notification of the Government of the French Republic, dated November 6, 1981, made pursuant to Article 34(2) of the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants of December 2, 1961, as revised at Geneva on November 10, 1972, and on October 23, 1978 (hereinafter referred to as "the 1978 Act"), that the French Republic will apply the Convention of 1961 as amended by the Additional Act of 1972 in its relations with Ireland, New Zealand and the United States of America, States bound by the 1978 Act which became member States of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants through ratification or acceptance of the 1978 Act.

As provided by Article 34(2) of the 1978 Act, the effect of the said notification is that, as from the beginning of one month after the date of the said notification, that is, as from December 6, 1981, and until the entry into force of the 1978 Act with respect to the French Republic, the latter will apply the Convention of 1961 as amended by the Additional Act of 1972 in its relations with Ireland, New Zealand and the United States of America, whereas the said States will apply the 1978 Act in their relations with the French Republic.
