Translating the New Traditional Knowledge Animation

May 16, 2018

Under the WIPO Open Access Policy, you can translate our new traditional knowledge animation – The Adventures of the Yakuanoi – into your indigenous language(s).

Consistent with our commitment to the dissemination and sharing of knowledge, WIPO’s Open Access Policy enables widespread access to, and use of our materials for anyone seeking to use and build upon these resources.  This includes the new traditional knowledge animation, as well as our other resources specifically addressed to indigenous peoples and local communities, such as our publication:  Promote and Protect Your Culture: A Practical Guide to Intellectual Property for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.

It is a novel and unique approach to the use of information and an area in which we are proud to be leading.

How you can translate the film

It is our hope that indigenous peoples and local communities translate the film into their traditional languages for widespread dissemination in their communities and to reach as many indigenous peoples and local communities as possible.

The translation and subsequent editing process will be at your own cost.  However, some countries, foundations and other entities might be able to provide funding for the translation of the film.  WIPO’s Traditional Knowledge Division is happy to provide logistical support.  Indigenous peoples and local communities who are interested in translating the film are encouraged to contact the Traditional Knowledge Division for more information.

The new traditional knowledge animation

The traditional knowledge animation was formally launched at the Thirty-Fifth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore
