Description: |
Reference is made to the recent visit by the Director General to Siem Reap, Cambodia from August 26 to 28, 2012. During the visit, the Director General met with the Prime Minister of Cambodia as well as with the Ministers for Commerce, Culture and Fine Arts, and Industry, Mines and Energy. The subject of accession to the WIPO Treaties and Conventions, namely the PCT, Madrid Protocol, the Hague Agreement (Geneva Act), and the Berne Convention figured prominently during all these bilateral discussions, and Cambodia has clearly indicated its intention to accede to these treaties as early as possible. Both sides agreed that, as a follow-up to the discussions in Siem Reap, Cambodia, it would be useful to hold detailed consultations on each of these treaties with WIPO colleagues concerned in Geneva with a view to facilitate the national processes in this regard. Moreover, ways and means of enhancing the respect for IP was also subjected to intensive discussion during the visit.
