By its letters dated September 15, 2011 and February 9, 2012 (copy attached), the Government of Burundi requested the assistance of the World Intellectual property Organization (WIPO) for training the following officials: Ms. Jocelyne Miburo, Head, and Ms. Nadine Muhimpundu, Advisor, National Service for Promotion of Traditional Medicine, Ms. Abbé Léopold Mvukiye, founder of the Traditional Medicine Centre of Buta, and Mr. Innocent Nahigombeye, Researcher at Action de lutte contre la malaria (ALUMA-Burundi) with a view to enhancing traditional knowledge (TK) management in the country. The request stems from recommendations formulated by WIPO experts in the Needs Assessment Report which called for developing the country’s capacity to make effective use of intellectual property (IP).
