Reference is made to the request by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to WIPO to co-organize a forum on geographical indications (GIs) with a view to explore the way forward in developing an appropriate protection system for the Philippines and also to the positive response by the Director General to the said request in a letter dated October 24, 2011.
The objectives of the Forum are to: (i) enhance awareness and discuss about the different approaches and mechanisms to protect GIs; and (ii) explore an appropriate system for protection of GIs in the Philippines.
