Following a request from Mr. Mohammad Hassan Kiani, Director General, Intellectual Property Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to the ASPAC Bureau (see letter attached) and in line with 2018 work plan activities for Program 9 (ASPAC Bureau) and Program 32 (Lisbon Registry), it is proposed that I go on mission to Teheran, Iran, to participate in a Seminar on the protection of geographical indications on August 25 and 26, 2018 (see draft program of the Seminar attached) and to have bilateral meetings with Iranian Authorities and GI stakeholders on August 28, 2018 to discuss in more details about Iranian accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement It is also proposed, as part of the mission, that I attend and provide any requested assistance in the workshops organized by the ASPAC Bureau from August 27 to 29 on Enabling IP Environment (EIE) to Strengthen the Business Competitiveness through Brands and Designs, in respect of issues relating to the further development and use of Iranian system of protection of quality products linked to origin, as a component of the above-mentioned ASPAC project (see copy of the memorandum of the ASPAC Bureau attached). Program 32 will finance my mission; Program 9 (ASPAC Bureau) will finance the participation of an international speaker to the Seminar and technical bilateral meetings relating to the further development of Iranian system of protection of quality products linked to origin up to 3’000 Swiss francs.
