Title: WIPO National Workshop on Patent Policy and its Legislative Implementation
Description: The Director General of the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI),
Mr. Juan José Báez, requested, by letter dated July 5, 2013 (see copy attached), the organization of a National Workshop on Patent Policy and its legislative implementation.
The Director General, by letter of 18 de Julio 2013, replied positively to this request.
Although the emphasis of the authorities’ request has been put on the analysis of the way Patent policies and Health policies are interconnected, it had been clarified through informal conversations, that other policy issues should be also part of the program.
Program: The program covers the evolution of the patent legal framework in Latin America, including, the way those legal text incorporates different policy issues, including but not limited to flexibilities and the links between different policies, such, patent policy and health, agricultural, competition policies. The program shows the long standing influence of multilateral treaties and the most recent one of preferential trade agreements, in shaping those legal frameworks.
