I met with H.E. Mr. François Xavier Ngarambe, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Rwanda to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, on April 1st, 2015, at the Permanent Mission. Among the subjects discussed, he made a request for the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to organize a study visit for Dr. Joseph Mungarulire, Director General, National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA) to the WIPO Headquarters.
NIRDA is a relatively new agency in Rwanda, with the goal to boost research that leads to increased industrial production which in the end should boost both domestic and export production. It also has the ambition to become a center of research and excellence in Africa. Under the leadership of Dr. Mungarulire, it is also charged with implementation of the National Industrial Policy as well as overseeing all WIPO activities in Rwanda, including matters related to transfer of technology.
The objective of the study visit would be to meet and discuss with officials in relevant sectors like the Global Infrastructure, Innovation, PCT, Patents and Technology and also to familiarize himself with the work of the Organization. It would also lead to fostering WIPO’s cooperation with Rwanda especially in the area for innovation, technology transfer and capacity building. |
