The PMSDS plannings for 2017 for Ms. Anita Huss and Ms. Miyuki Monroig include as Training Need (current job requirement) an “Advanced copyright course to support legislative advice work – Amsterdam summer course or similar”. After consultations with Ms. Woods, Mr. Fitzgerald and other colleagues in CCIS who have already taken part in this summer course in previous years, it is suggested that they attend the Summer Course on International Copyright Law at the University of Amsterdam’s Institute for Information Law (IViR), July 3 to July 7, 2017. Accompanying course material, incl. the preliminary agenda, is attached to this Memorandum. After some research, and after having compared this course with other possible alternatives worldwide, it seems that this course is the best alternative available, with respect to the participation fee, location/timing of the course, and quality of the program and speakers, such as Prof. Daniel Gervais for the topic related to the Collective Administration of Rights. As you will note, they have made a preliminary registration for the course, given that places are very limited (max. 25 participants per course). WIPO would qualify for the reduced civil society participation fee of EUR 1,350. This activity can be covered by budget 0005 P3390 of CID’s work plan for the year 2017, as regards the travel costs and DSAs. It is understood that the Performance and Development Section of the Human Resources Management Department could consider covering the participation fee of EUR 1,350 under budget 00081 P3197, given that the training was indicated in my PMSDS planning. |
