During the current year, the first Training and Advisory Program on Intellectual Property Rights in the Global Economy for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) was held in Stockholm, Sweden from April 9 to 28, 2017. The ongoing Training Program, which is the second this year and focusing on Technological Capacity Building started on May 21, 2017 and will be completed on June 9, 2017.
Following consultations with the Swedish Patent and Registration Office (PRV), the Training Program for Least Developed Countries focusing on Copyright is proposed to take place from August 27 to September 15, 2017, in cooperation with PRV and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), in Stockholm, Sweden.
The main objective of the third Training Program is to exchange ideas and experiences on the contribution of intellectual property with special emphasis on Copyright and Related Rights, for economic growth and development both from a national and an international perspective. In this context, in depth examination and discussions will be made on subject areas such as works protected by copyright; rights of reproduction and distribution, rights of public performance, broadcasting; translation and adaptation rights; the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances and the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled; limitations and exceptions to rights and duration of copyright. The establishment of collective management organizations and their benefits for LDCs will be thoroughly discussed.
The Training Program will also deliberate, in general, on the legislation, enforcement and management aspects of other intellectual property subjects such as patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications.
