| Abstract: | An adjustable hospital bed 10 is provided that integrates a means for physical exercise, such as a treadmill 40 or bicycle pedals 84, in order to allow a patient to participate in physical exercise without requiring the patient to leave the confines of the adjustable bed. The means for physical exercise is mounted to the bed 10 so as to be easily transitioned from a stored position to an operative position, preferably without the operator needing to locate any additional components. Adjustable hospital beds in accordance with embodiments of the present invention reduces incidence of pulmonary emboli, enhances protein metabolism and resultant healing, decreases the time of recovery, improves the patient's well being, improves patient's skin care and improves the patient's strength and balance. | |||||||||||
