CLAIMS What I claim as my invention is: 1. A chest mounted book holder assembly for use while hiking or observing nature comprising a rectangularly shaped back and base with page holders for holding the book open and means for attaching the book holder assembly to a chest mounted harness assembly and with means for closing and securing the book holder assembly against the chest.

2. A chest mounted book holder assembly for use while hiking or observing nature comprising a rectangular shaped back and base with page holders for holding the book open and means for attaching the book holder assembly to the chest area of a garment and with means for closing and securing the book holder assembly against the chest.

3. A chest mounted book holder as described in claims 1 and 2 with side covers to protect the pages of a book from being lifted by the wind and to stop the book from sliding off the book holder.

4. A chest mounted book holder as described in claims 1 and 2 with felt tipped rotatable page holders and means for attaching them to the book holder.

5. A chest mounted book holder as described in claims 1 and 2 with adjustable book holder straps and means for adjusting the angle of the book to the eyes of the reader.

6. A chest mounted book holder as described in claims 1 and 2 with means for allowing the wearer to turn the pages of a book positioned in the book holder and/or to make notes on or adjacent to the book.

7. A book holder as described in claim 1 also including a chest mounted harness with shoulder strap adjustment slides for increasing or decreasing the distance between the wearers eyes and the book holder in order to bring the reading material into focus.

8. A book holder as described in claim I also including a chest mounted harness with shoulder strap adjustment slides and belt adjustment slides for obtaining a snug fit for wearers of different girths and heights.

AMENDED CLAIMS [received by the International Bureau on 09 August 2000 (09.08.00); original claimsl-8 replaced by new claims 9 and 10 (1 page)] Where originally there were 8 claims. this amendment cancels all original 8 claims and adds new claims 9 and l 0 as follows : 9. A chest mounted book holder assembly comprising a back upon which a book or a field guide is placed and notes written with side covers to protect the pages of the book from being lifted by wind and to stop the book from sliding off the back with means for holding the book open and further means for allowing the pages to be tumed when desired while holding them firmly against the wind, further means for collapsing said book holder and folding it against a front torso area of a wearer between a waist and shoulders to secure it against swinging and bounding while walking or hiking and means to unsecure and deplov said book holder for reading, writing, or reference, said book holder being in a generally vertical position when folded and secured against the chest area and a generally horizontal position when open or deployed, further means for mounting said book holder to the front torso area of the wearer or to the front torso area of an outer garment.

10. A chest mounted book holder assembly as described in claim 9 above with means for adjusting an angle of the book holder to a wearers eyes when in an open or deployed position.
