| Abstract: | The present invention relates to an optical disc drive (20) and a method for operating an optical disc (10) having a data side (14) and a label side (13). As it is known, a considerable amount of time is spent in establishing the disc type during a start-up time, when the optical disc is inserted in the drive. In order to shorten such start-up time, when the optical disc (10) is 'known' to the optical disc drive (20), i.e. when the optical disc (10) has been already inserted in the optical disc drive (20) before, according to the invention the optical disc drive inspects the label side of the optical disc so as to derive identification data and subsequently compares said identification data with a plurality of identification data of discs previously dealt with. If a match is found, the disc type is immediately known. | |||||||||||
