Evolução cronológica do depósito de pedidos PCT relacionados com os ODS:

O O Tratado de Cooperação em matéria de Patentes (PCT) da OMPI é um mecanismo por meio do qual muitos inovadores nos Estados membros do PCT procuram uma proteção patentária para as tecnologias que desenvolveram.

Na medida em que essas tecnologias possam ser relevantes para responder às questões e aos desafios identificados nos ODS individuais e nas suas metas associadas, o processamento pela OMPI desses pedidos PCT resulta na divulgação das invenções para o mundo, ao mesmo tempo ajudando os inovadores a procurar uma proteção jurídica. O PCT, enquanto mecanismo facilitador, ajuda assim o surgimento de tecnologias relevantes para os ODS.

De acordo com os nosso dados, é mais provável que o PCT seja mais utilizado que os sistemas nacionais para patentes voltadas para os desafios dos ODS, o que faz sentido já que o PCT facilita a procura de uma proteção patentária multinacional de uma maneira particularmente econômica.
