AZ  Azerbaijan (name of Office; telephone numbers; e-mail address)

The name of the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patent of the Republic of Azerbaijan has changed to:

Patent and Trademark Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan

CH  Switzerland (electronic filing; fees)

For information on the acceptance, with effect from 19 June 2017, by the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property as receiving Office of international applications filed using ePCT‑Filing, as well as information on the electronic filing fee reductions listed in item 4 of the Schedule of Fees that will be applicable, see “Electronic Filing and Processing of International Applications”, above.

CR  Costa Rica (telephone numbers)

The Registry of Industrial Property (Costa Rica) has notified an additional telephone number.  The telephone numbers to be used are now:

The amounts of the following national fees, payable to the Ecuadorian Institute of Intellectual Property as designated (or elected) Office, have changed:

EP  European Patent Office (fees)

The European Patent Office (EPO) has notified a change in the exemptions, reductions or refunds of the national fee – the search fee is now reduced by EUR 1,110 for international applications for which the international search report or a supplementary international search report has been established by the Austrian Patent Office, or in accordance with the Protocol on Centralization by the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH), the Nordic Patent Institute, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, the Swedish Patent and Registration Office or the Visegrad Patent Institute (VPI).

FI  Finland (fees)

The amounts of the following national fees, payable to the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) as designated (or elected) Office, have changed with effect from 1 May 2017:

JO  Jordan (general information; summary of requirements for entry into the national phase; requirements concerning the deposit of microorganisms and other biological material)

It is recalled that Jordan became bound by the PCT on 9 June 2017.  General information about Jordan as a PCT Contracting State, as well as information on the requirements of the Industrial Property Protection Directorate, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply (Jordan) as designated (or elected) Office, have been published in the PCT Applicant’s Guide – see Annex B1 (JO) and the National Chapter, Summary (JO) at:

LT  Lithuania (competent International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authorities)

The State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania has specified, with effect from 1 June 2017, the Visegrad Patent Institute (VPI), in addition to the EPO and the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) (Russian Federation), as competent International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority for international applications filed by nationals and residents of Lithuania with the State Patent Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania, or with the International Bureau, as receiving Office.

MD  Republic of Moldova (fees)

The amounts of the following national fees, payable to the State Agency on Intellectual Property (Republic of Moldova) as designated (or elected) Office, have changed:

Search fee and other fees relating to international search (Japan Patent Office)

The Japan Patent Office has notified changes to the conditions for refund of the search fee where the Authority benefits from an earlier search – the amount of the refund of the search fee is reduced by two thirds where the fee reduction for the search fee was applied.

Preliminary examination fee and other fees relating to international preliminary examination (Spanish Patent and Trademark Office)

Further to the information published in PCT Newsletter No. 05/2017, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office has notified the International Bureau (IB) that the correct amount of the preliminary examination fee and the additional preliminary examination fee, applicable with effect from 1 April 2017, is EUR 583.65.

  1. This fee may be reduced by up to 90% for micro, small and medium enterprises, recognized national universities, independent researchers, public institutions, small and medium farmers and enterprises of popular and solidarity economy.
