BE Belgium (institutions with which deposits of microorganisms and other biological material may be made)

The International Bureau has been notified of changes in the addresses of the Belgian Coordinated Collections of Microorganisms (BCCMTM), an international depositary authority under the Budapest Treaty on the International Recognition of the Deposit of Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure with which deposits of microorganisms and other biological material may be made. With effect from 2 July 2014, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, in its capacity as receiving Office, no longer requires that an agent be appointed.

GE Georgia (competent International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authorities)

The National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia (Sakpatenti) has specified the Austrian Patent Office, in addition to the European Patent Office, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) (Russian Federation) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as competent International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority for international applications filed by nationals and residents of Georgia with the National Intellectual Property Center as receiving Office, with effect from 12 May 2014.

GR Greece (location and mailing address)

IE Ireland (e-mail notifications; filing of PCT-EASY requests together with PCT-EASY physical media)

The Patents Office (Ireland) has notified the International Bureau (IB) that it will now send notifications via e-mail in respect of international applications.
Furthermore, the Office in its capacity as receiving Office has notified the IB that it no longer accepts international applications with requests in PCT-EASY format. Consequently, the corresponding reduction under item 4 of the PCT Schedule of Fees no longer applies.

IS Iceland (fees)

As from 1 September 2014, there will be a change in the equivalent amounts of the international filing fee and the fee per sheet over 30, payable in ISK to the Icelandic Patent Office as receiving Office, as well as a change in the equivalent amount(s) in ISK of the fee reductions listed in item 4 of the Schedule of Fees, as indicated in Fee Table I(a).

MX Mexico (requirements concerning agent)

There has been a change in the requirements as to who can act as agent before the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property as receiving Office and as designated (or elected) Office – any resident of Mexico can now act as agent.

US United States of America (competent International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authorities)

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has specified the Israel Patent Office (ILPO), in addition to the Australian Patent Office, the European Patent Office, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) (Russian Federation), the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as competent International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority for certain international applications filed by nationals and residents of the United States of America with the USPTO as receiving Office, with effect from 1 October 2014. Note, however, that the ILPO has notified the International Bureau that it will only accept a maximum of 75 international applications per fiscal quarter.

The Agreement between the ILPO and the International Bureau of WIPO in relation to the functioning of the ILPO as an International Searching Authority and International Preliminary Examining Authority under the Patent Cooperation Treaty will be updated accordingly on 1 October 2014 at:

(Updating of PCT Applicant’s Guide, Annex C (US))

Search fee (Australian Patent Office, National Institute of Industrial Property (Brazil))

The Australian Patent Office, in its capacity as International Searching Authority, has notified the International Bureau that, where the Office issues a declaration that no international search report will be established under PCT Article 17(2)(a), it will give a refund of AUD 1,500.

As from 1 September 2014, there will be a change in the equivalent amount payable in EUR for an international search carried out by the National Institute of Industrial Property (Brazil), as indicated in Fee Table I(b).
