| Abstract: | Apparatus for cutting an outer layer on a container such as a CD case. In one form this apparatus includes a frame or housing with guides defining a path for the container to move along. A cutting blade is mounted on the frame at a fixed location along the path, and extending into the path so as to cut the container outer layer as the container moves along the path. In another form, the container is held in a fixed location and a blade is moved relative to the container to cut the outer layer. A retracting safety mechanism may be provided to retract the blade when it is not cutting to shield it from the user. The mechanism maybe operated manually or automatically by the movement of the container relative to the blade. One form, of the apparatus is particularly adapted to cut the manufacturer's sealing label on cases for CDs, DVDs, etc. | |||||||||||
