New Search Fields Available in PATENTSCOPE

April 29, 2016

Four new search fields have been created to search detailed information regarding the PCT patent protection procedure in PATENTSCOPE: ISA, ISR, SIS and IPE. Thanks to these extra fields, you can now make your searches more targeted and specific than ever.

Since these fields are only related to the PCT (WIPO) collection and not to national collections of patents, you’ll need to make sure to indicate the WIPO collection when carrying out searches using them, e.g. OF:WO AND …

As with all PATENTSCOPE fields, these new fields can be used in combination with other fields using boolean logic without any restriction to construct complex search strategies.

Search field: International Search Authority (ISA)

The ISA field allows you to specify the International Search Authority which performed the PCT search and issued the associated International Search Report (ISR). The parameter you should use is the two-letter code of the search authority office (make sure to follow WIPO Standard ST.3 formatting).

Example: the query ISA:US and OF:WO returns all PCT applications with USPTO as PCT search authority.

Search field: International Search Report (ISR)

The ISR field allows you to retrieve all PCT applications published with either an International Search Report or with an Article 17(2)(a) declaration. The parameter you should use is either the constant value “report” or the constant value “declaration”.

Example: the query ISR:report and OF:WO returns all PCT applications that have been published with an International Search Report and the query ISR:declaration and OF:WO returns all PCT applications that have been published with an Article 17(2)(a) declaration.

Search field: International Preliminary Examination

The IPE field allows you to retrieve PCT applications with which an International Preliminary Examination Report (IPER, or IPRP2) has been published (or not). The parameters you should use are either the constant value “report” or the value “none”.

Example: the query IPE:report and OF:WO returns all PCT applications for which an IPER document is available in PATENTSCOPE and the query IPE:none and OF:WO returns all PCT applications for which no IPER document is available in PATENTSCOPE.

Search field: Supplementary International Search

Definition:

  • If any Supplementary International Search Report has been received, show status “report”, even if there is a declaration on file from another Authority indicating that it will not establish an SIS report.
  • If any SIS Declaration has been received and there is no SIS Report received, show status “Declaration”
  • If no SIS Reports or Declarations are on file, show status “None”.

Example one: the query SIS:none and OF:WO returns all PCT applications for which neither a SIS declaration nor a Supplementary International Search Report are available in PATENTSCOPE,

Example two: the query SIS:report and OF:WO returns all PCT applications for which at least one Supplementary International Search Report is available in PATENTSCOPE.
