Second WIPO Global Symposium of Intellectual Property Authorities – Sharing Knowledge and Work Among IP Authorities: What projects are under way and how we could collaborate?

WIPO, Geneva, September 16 and 17, 2010

Objectives

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is organizing the Second Global Symposium of Intellectual Property Authorities to be held on September 16 and 17, 2010, at WIPO. The Symposium will provide heads of IP authorities, industry leaders and other stakeholders with an international forum in which they can share ideas and experiences for improving services to be provided by IP authorities. The First Symposium successfully discussed emerging proposals and reinforced international partnerships (see the result of the First Symposium).

Today, IP authorities have different IP laws and practices, and yet, most of the challenges and demands coming from users are common. IP authorities have to respond to demands from users who have increasingly participated in the global market place. IP authorities have identified many areas where they could internationally collaborate. At the First Symposium, several IP authorities presented their pilot projects in which they could share common tools, databases, networks, and platforms for sharing digital information, knowledge and work.

The Second Global Symposium will bring you up to date on these on-going projects for sharing knowledge and work, and will explore the future vision of international collaboration and global infrastructure.

WIPO has invited its member States, IGOs, and NGOs accredited as WIPO observers to this Symposium.
