Title: "New methodologies for patent searching; what do we need?"
Abstract:
"Effective information searching is fundamental to prosecution and granting of patents. It also contributes a vital element to the enforcement regime, as third parties seek to understand their freedom to operate, or to establish grounds for invalidation during post-grant litigation. The information requirements at each stage differ, and increasingly demand specially-adapted tools or techniques to provide comprehensive answers. However, the majority of today's electronic tools utilise search methods which have changed little in 40 years. This presentation will examine what factors contribute towards better-quality searching, and comment on what needs to change in order to deliver these results."
