Patent tools & processes – transitioning to One Global Process

Keith J Dilley, General Electric, August 2009 - Abstract

The current tools & processes for identifying prior art, submitting and prosecuting patent applications are sub-optimal in comparison to up-to-date e-business best practice. I will focus on areas where process changes and improvements, together with new tools could bring substantial benefits to both the applicant and the patent offices.

The drivers and technology enablers are already well defined; globalization, simplification, digitization, cost reduction and reduced cycle time. All existing tools and processes should be examined in their AS IS state and transformed into TO BE via a one global process initiative.
