Nice Classification

The Office accepts all of the class headings of the Nice Classification with the exception of the description “personal and social services rendered by others to meet the needs of individuals” in Class 45, as it is considered to be vague.

Representation before the Office

In case of a refusal, the holder may be represented by a local attorney. An address for service in Singapore must be provided.
List of local representatives.

Collective and Guarantee Marks

Collective and certification marks are registrable but not guarantee marks. Regulations governing the use of collective and certification marks must be sent directly to the Office within nine months from the date of filing the application.

Recording of replacement takes place upon request, filed with the Office. A fee of 65 Sing dollars for each class of goods and services is required. All rights of the national trademark are accrued.

The Office examines applications resulting from transformation if the transformed mark is still pending, in which case the examination continues. If the transformed mark is protected in the territory of Singapore, a certificate of registration is issued without examination. A transformation fee of 374 Sing dollars for each class of goods and services is required.

Maintenance Requirement

The recording in the International Register of a trademark license related to an international registration does not have effect in Singapore.
The national law, however, provides for the recording of licenses in relation to international registrations in the National Register.
