How to manage your international registration: Change in legal nature of the holder

If you are a legal entity (e.g. limited liability company, cooperative, corporation), use Form MM9 (section 4) to make changes to your legal nature in the International Register.  You can also use this form to update the territory under which your company is organized.

If your change in legal nature also includes a change in your company's name and/or address, you can submit all of these changes using a single Form MM9.

You may submit Form MM9 directly to WIPO or through the holder's "home" IP Office (i.e., the Office of the Contracting Party of the holder).

How much does it cost?

The fee for changing the legal nature of the holder is 150 Swiss francs.

If the change is submitted for one or more international registrations, or also includes a change in the holder’s name and/or address, the fee remains 150 Swiss francs, provided all changes are requested on the same form (MM9).

For further information on changes in the name and/or address of the holder, see paragraphs  B.II.47.01 to 48.13 of the Guide to the International Registration of Marks under the Madrid Agreement and the Madrid Protocol and pages 56 to 60 of "Making the Most of the Madrid System". For further information refer to Information Notice No. 11/2017.
