Change in Name and/or Address of the Holder
A change in the name and/or address of the holder of an international registration gives rise to its recordal in the international registry. This ensures effective communication between the holder of an international mark and their representative, on the one hand, and the International Bureau, on the other.
All requests to record a change in the name and/or address of the holder should be presented, in one copy, on form MM9 in English, French or Spanish. The form may be submitted to the International Bureau either directly by the holder, or through their Intellectual Property Office.
Please note that a transfer or partial assignment of an international mark is subject to a recordal under a Change in Ownership.
For any queries on how to present such a request through an Intellectual Property Office, please refer to « Information concerning National or Regional Procedures before IP Offices under the Madrid System » or contact the Office in question (Directory of Intellectual Property Offices).
Detailed information on a change in the name and/or address of a representative can be found in paragraphs B.II.49.01-51.13 of the Guide to the International Registration of Marks under the Madrid Agreement and the Madrid Protocol [PDF].
