Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean - Enforcement

A functioning IP system encompasses not only up to dates registration systems, but also a legal framework that protects and provides redress to rights holders when infringement of their rights occurs. For economic value to be derived from IP rights, an effective system of enforcement must be in place. The Bureau works closely with the Enforcement Division to help countries of the region meet their obligations imposed under international and national laws. This is done through information sharing; seminars and workshops aimed at the relevant stakeholders. In addition, with the assistance of international experts, the Bureau organizes training courses for the judiciary, police and custom officials in the use of current law and tactics for the enforcement of IP rights.
