Main Findings
61.3% of respondents are habitual purchasers of counterfeit goods, 26.1% report rarely buying counterfeits, and 10.5% do not buy counterfeit goods at all. 74% are confident that they can distinguish between fakes and genuine products. 65% agree that buying fakes deprives the government of revenues it could spend for health, education or housing. Still, 66% would not hesitate to buy pirated goods.
In the period from May 2006 to May 2007, the following counterfeits were most popular among respondents: clothes (with 93.4% having bought counterfeit clothes over the past twelve months), CDs (79.7%), tennis shoes (73.2%), perfumes (71.2%), pens (66.9%), handbags and wallets (59.6%), and DVD and VHS movies (53.5%).
