Details
Subject/Type: | Piracy |
Focus: | Software |
Country/Territory: | United States of America |
Objective: | To identify the characteristics of software pirates and thus construct a profile of the software pirate. |
Sample: | 340 undergraduate and graduate business students |
Methodology: | Questionnaire |
Main Findings
Authors found evidence that software pirates tend to be older, male and more familiar with different types of computer software: older/graduate students tend to pirate more than their younger colleagues; males pirated software more often than females and students using computers often were more prone to illegal copying.
Concluding, the study recommends that educational institutions undertake more educational and preventive efforts, and expose their students to the implications of software piracy so as to combat illegal software copying.
