Increasing IP Use: Outreach Aimed at Teachers
INPI France
Through its Génération Innovation program, INPI has prepared a wide variety of guides and lesson plans for secondary-school teachers and university professors who wish to integrate IP concepts into the economics, science and technology lessons. INPI also offers special training sessions for teachers in several cities throughout France.
Japan Patent Office (JPO)
Since 1998, the JPO has produced and distributed textbooks on industrial property for vocational and higher educational institutions, as well as industrial property education supplementary textbooks for elementary and secondary schools. As a complement to these textbooks, the JPO has organized education support seminars for teachers.
Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual (INDECOPI)
Since 1996, the INDECOPI Educa program has raised awareness about the importance of respecting IPRs among Peruvian primary and secondary school teachers. The long-term goal is for these teachers to pass on the newly acquired IP information to their students and their families. This program involves the attendance of teachers to 40 hours of training seminars, after which they receive an official certificate.
MENC – National Association for Music Education
This association’s Creativity in the Classroom program consists of lesson plans for teachers on copyright issues, including classroom projects and activities, stickers and and posters. MENC has also issued a guide explaining US copyright law and fair use guidelines for music educators.
