Committee on Development and Intellectual Property
The mandate of the CDIP, as established by the General Assembly (document A/43/16, page 135), is to:
- develop a work-program for implementation of the 45 adopted recommendations;
- monitor, assess, discuss and report on the implementation of all recommendations adopted, and for that purpose it shall coordinate with relevant WIPO bodies; and
- discuss IP and development related issues as agreed by the Committee, as well as those decided by the General Assembly.
The Committee reports and makes recommendations annually to the General Assembly.
Who attends the meetings?
The Committee is composed of all Member States of WIPO and is open to the participation, as observers, of all intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations having permanent observer status in WIPO, and of other IGOs and NGOs admitted by the Committee on an ad hoc basis. The first session of the Committee on Development and Intellectual Property took place from March 3 to 7, 2008. The Committee was attended by 99 Member States, 7 intergovernmental organizations and 31 non-governmental Organizations. During the first session, Member States approved the rules of procedure of the Committee and started discussions on the working document prepared by the Chair, in respect of the implementation of the Adopted Recommendations of the Development Agenda.
