Main duties
The Assistant Program Officer assists primarily in the development and implementation of WIPO’s Intellectual Property Global On-line Laws Database (IP GOLD). This comprehensive new database, which is currently under development, will enhance and expand WIPO’s existing Collection of Laws for Electronic Access (CLEA), and will provide free access to treaties and national laws relating to intellectual property as well as other relevant reference materials.
Under the general supervision of the Legal Counsel and the direct supervision of the OLC staff leading the IP GOLD unit, the incumbent will primarily perform the following duties:
- assist in the development of IP GOLD in respect of obtaining all relevant information concerning the legal framework of the intellectual property systems of all WIPO Member States, with special focus on Arabic-speaking countries;
- assist in communications and liaison work with relevant national IP offices, including participation in missions as may be needed, to ensure that the information obtained is up-to-date and complete;
- assist in establishing contacts and working relationships with focal points at the national IP offices and maintain regular liaison with them so that any new development or changes in their IP legal framework are promptly reflected in IP GOLD;
- carry out data entry, review and editing of information on the database, ensuring its accuracy and completeness;
- assist in establishing and maintaining the Arabic language format of IP GOLD and be responsible for the uploading of Arabic text into IP GOLD;
- liaise and work closely with the Internet Services Section as regards the administrative and public interfaces of IP GOLD;
- assist in marketing and promoting the IP GOLD project to Member States; and
- perform other related duties in IP GOLD.
- The incumbent also performs duties in the other units of OLC as may be required by the Legal Counsel.
