Guidelines for Applicants

General

Vacancies for professional category posts (P) are generally advertised through the appropriate administrations of the Member States of WIPO and in the WIPO periodicals. Most of the posts require staff with a legal background and considerable experience in the field of intellectual property.

Essential Qualifications

When deciding whether to submit an application, please read carefully the section on the right-hand side of the vacancy announcement wherein are listed the essential academic, experience and language requirements. Those qualification requirements are considered to be the minimum requisite for satisfactory performance in the position. Please examine carefully whether your qualifications are really relevant in respect of those required for the position for which you are applying. It would be helpful if you indicated in writing in a covering letter how your qualifications match the position in question. N.B.: a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience is normally required for a post at grade P.5; 9 years at P.4; 6 years at P.3; 3 years at P.2.

Applications

Applications should preferably be sent in electronic format. Please ensure that the vacancy announcement number (not the post number) and the title of the position for which you wish to be considered are clearly indicated on the front of your application. If you wish to apply for more than one position, you should submit a separate copy of the application form for each competition.
