The Offices republishes international registrations before examination, in Arabic and English, in the national "Property Protection Gazette" at:
http://spo.gov.sy/dis_articles.php?f=6

Examination Procedure

The Office carries out examination on substantive grounds, including a limited examination as to novelty, or examination as to novelty following opposition by third parties.

Opposition Period

Ninety days from the date of publication in the national "Property Protection Gazette" (non-extendable).

Time Limit for Responding to Refusal

Thirty days from the date of receipt by the holder of the notification of refusal (non-extendable).

Effect as Grant of Protection

The international registration has the effect as a grant of protection as from the international registration date. If a refusal (partial or total) has been issued and the refusal has been subsequently withdrawn, the international registration has the effect as a grant of protection as from the date the refusal was withdrawn.

Representation before the Office

Holders of international registrations may not file documents or appear before the Office directly. Local representation is required by a representative whose address is within the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic. A list of representatives is available on the website at:

Fees payable on division of the international registration

Not applicable.
