Application Fee

The Office does not collect and forward fees payable to the International Bureau.

Transmittal Fee

A fee of 30 Euro applies, if the Office sends the application, as an intermediary, to the International Bureau.

Procedures Applying when this Contracting Party is Designated

Republication

The Office does not republish international registrations or renewals.

Examination Procedure

The Office carries out examination on substantive grounds, including a limited examination as to novelty, or examination as to novelty following opposition by third parties.

Opposition Period

Within 12 months from the date of publication in the International Designs Bulletin (non-extendable).

Time Limit for Responding to Refusal

Within six months from the date of notification (extendable for 2 months).

Effect as Grant of Protection

The international registration has the effect as a grant of protection, if no refusal has been issued, as from the international registration date. If a refusal (partial or total) has been issued and the refusal has been subsequently withdrawn, the international registration has the effect as a grant of protection as from the international registration date.

Representation before the Office

Holders may not file documents or appear before the Office directly. Local representation is required by a trademark attorney. The Office maintains a list of patent attorneys allowed to practice before the Office. A list of trademark and patent attorneys is annexed to the provisional refusal, if issued.

Fees payable on division of the international registration

Not applicable.
