Application Fee

The Office does not collect and forward fees payable to the International Bureau.

Transmittal Fee

A fee of 9.000 Icelandic Kronas will apply, if the Office sends the international application, as an intermediary, to the International Bureau.

Republication

The Office republishes the international registration, in Icelandic, in the national ELS-tíðindi Gazette at:
http://www.els.is/utgafa/els

Examination Procedure

The Office carries out examination on substantive grounds, including a limited examination as to novelty (for example, an examination as to local novelty only, when the criterion for the validity of the design right is universal novelty), or examination as to novelty following opposition by third parties.

None.

Time Limit for Responding to Refusal

Two months from the date of notification (extendable for two months).

Effect as Grant of Protection

The international registration has the effect as a grant of protection as from the international registration date.

Representation before the Office

A holder of design rights, who is not domiciled in Iceland, must have an agent established in the European Economic Area (EEA), in a member state of the incorporation of the European Free Trade Association or in the Faroe Islands. The Office does not have a extensive list of representatives that may act before the Office, but holders may contact the Office and request such a list.
