Republication

The Office republishes the international registration, in Spanish, in the national Official Bulletin of Industrial Property (BOPI).

Examination Procedure

The Office carries out examination on substantive grounds, including a limited examination as to novelty and an examination as to universal novelty.

Opposition Period

Two months from the date of publication in the national Official Bulletin of Industrial Property (BOPI).

Time Limit for Responding to Refusal

Two months from the date of publication in the national Official Bulletin of Industrial Property (BOPI).

Effect as Grant of Protection

The international registration has the effect as a grant of protection as from the date the international registration is published in the International Designs Bulletin, provided no refusal is issued at a later date.

Representation before the Office

Holders of international registrations may file documents or appear before the Office for some matters only, in particular, if an application is filed through the Office. Non-EU residents must be represented by an industrial property (IP) agent before the Office. The Office maintains a list of IP agents which may be obtained directly and against the payment of a fee at:
