The Office does not republish international registrations or renewals. |
| Examination Procedure |
The Office carries out a substantive examination on patentability conditions for novelty and originality. |
| Opposition Period |
Six months from the date of publication in the International Designs Bulletin (non-extendable). |
| Time Limit for Responding to Refusal |
Two months from the date of receipt of the notification (extendable for up to a maximum of 12 months upon payment of the required fee). |
| Effect as Grant of Protection |
The international registration has the effect as a grant of protection if no refusal has been issued, as from the international registration date. If a refusal (partial or total) has been issued and the refusal has been subsequently withdrawn, the international registration has the effect as a grant of protection as from the international registration date. |
| Representation before the Office |
Foreign holders may not appear or file documents directly before the Office. Representation is required by a local patent attorney, registered with the Office. A list of patent attorneys may be obtained directly from the Office or at: |
