The event — at 16:30–18:00 on 5 February 2013 in the WTO’s CR Building, in Geneva — will be open to the public.

The Directors-General of the WHO, WIPO and WTO will present the study. The
vent will be chaired by Madame Ruth Dreifuss, former Swiss Federal Councillor. It will be followed by a reception in the WTO Atrium.

The study, “Promoting Access to Medical Technologies and Innovation: Intersections between Public Health, Intellectual Property and Trade”,  aims to assist policy-makers by providing an overview of the interplay between public health, trade and intellectual property, information on legal and policy options, and empirical data.

It illustrates the need to adopt a holistic approach, ranging from research and discovery to delivery, encompassing the health, trade and intellectual property dimensions. It is another milestone in the close cooperation between WHO, WIPO and WTO.

The study is intended to inform ongoing technical co-operation activities undertaken by the three organizations, and to support policy discussions. Based on many years of field experience in technical cooperation, the study has been prepared to serve the needs of policy-makers who seek a comprehensive presentation of the full range of issues, as well as lawmakers, government officials, delegates to international organizations, non-governmental organizations and researchers.

  • For logistical and security clearance purposes, it is essential that participants register prior to 31 January 2013 by email to [email protected]
