Dr. Beata Smarzynska Javorcik is an Economist in the Research Department of the
World Bank. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and
a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University. Her research interests focus on
foreign direct investment, corruption, protection of intellectual property and
technology transfer. Her work has been published in economic journals, such as the
European Economic Review, Journal of Economic Integration, World Economy and
Post-Communist Economies. At the World Bank she has also served as a country
economist for Azerbaijan and done extensive work on transition countries,
including her native Poland.
