During his visit in Latvia Director General gave a WIPO reception which was attended by an important number of representatives of the IP community, as well as by international participants in the celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia, visited the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia and opened and attended the International Conference on Intellectual Property Rights Management devoted to the celebrations of the 20th Anniversary of the Re-establishment of the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia.
The core goal of this Conference was to provide a suitable and conducive platform to discuss, debate and present contemporary venues in the area of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and their management. The themes that were discussed included, but were not limited to:
- Norms, rules and standards of IPR governance;
- Competition and collaboration;
- Policy harmonization to ‘one size fits all’ (e.g. TRIPS);
- Alternative appropriation regimes;
- Appropriate IPR management and policy;
- IPR performance, including innovation and competitiveness and sustainable development;
- The institutional IPR environment, including IPR support systems and norms and standards enforced by IPR offices.
