WIPO representatives attended the Interstate Council for the Legal Protection and Enforcement of Intellectual Property (ICPEIP), which took place in Kyrgyzstan. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the current situation in the CIS countries with regard to the role of intellectual property (IP) in national development, importance of a strategic approach to IP, development of national IP strategies. The meeting also contributed to the forming of the agenda of the ICPEIP future activities and cooperation plans between WIPO and ICPEIP and its member countries. The topics included, but where not limited to: role of Intellectual property in economic development, WIPO current challenges; WIPO tools for countries in transition and development of a national IP strategy as a basis for innovation model economy.
