The Digital Access Service offers a simple and safe digital alternative to filing paper copies of priority documents with multiple patent offices.
It will enable a patent applicants claiming priority to ask patent offices of second filing to retrieve a copy of the priority document themselves via the service.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) started as of March 18, 2013 a new “Access Code” procedure. Making use of your US priority document via the WIPO Digital Access Service (DAS) is a two-stage process:
- Step 1: request the USPTO to register the priority document in DAS, for instance by contacting the USPTO’s Electronic Business Center (EBC) at 1-866-217-9197.
Further details are available on the USPTO’s website. Please also contact the EBC in case of any issues/delays in getting your US priority documents registered in DAS.
- Step2: provide the access code ("confirmation number" on your USPTO filing receipt) along with your request to the Accessing Office to retrieve the US priority document from DAS.
