WIPO Internet Treaties
WIPO actively promotes the WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT) and the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT), known together as the WIPO Internet Treaties. These Treaties ought to be considered as updates and supplements of the protection granted by the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (Berne Convention) and the International Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations (Rome Convention). They address the challenges posed by the digital technologies advancements, in particular the dissemination of protected material over digital networks such as the Internet.
