National Public Awareness and Capacity Building Conference on Online Filing Services in Cambodia

On June 14, 2023, WIPO, together with the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, co-organized a National Public Awareness and Capacity Building Conference on Online Filing Services in Sihanouk Ville, Cambodia, with support from Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT/Japan IP Global).

The objectives of the conference included (i) to raise awareness among stakeholders about the benefits of online filing services and to facilitate the use of WIPO File system by the general public and relevant IP stakeholders; and ii) to strengthen the capacity of the general public and IP stakeholders in order to use on-line filing system for more easier and wider use.

The conference attracted a wide range of stakeholders in Cambodia, including participants from small and medium enterprises, the Chamber of Commerce, the Special Economic Zone of Preah Sihanouk Province, as well as various provincial departments.

About the conference

The conference provided participants with insights and knowleges related to the automation of trademark administration, whose topics included:

  • Searching existing trademarks;
  • Filing trademark applications - demonstration and benefits of DIP trademark e-filing system;
  • Trademark registration cost, timings and overcoming Issues;
  • Receiving trademark applications at the DIP; and
  • Unlocking potential - enhancing IP services for SMEs

Particulary, speakers from the DIP focused on providng information on major reforms brought by digization and undertaken by the DIP in trademark registration, which enhnaced the efficency and convinieince of trademark registration and related tasks  while speakers from WIPO delivered a presentation on the way of using online filing services for trademark registration offered by the DIP through WIPO File.
