Integration of WIPO CASE functionality within IPAS

November 4, 2022

In 2022, WIPO completed a project to integrate WIPO CASE functionality within IPAS with support from the Funds-In-Trust Japan Industrial Property Global (FIT/Japan IP Global).

The objective of this project was to enable patent examiners using IPAS to easily access WIPO CASE features with highlighted search results from WIPO PATENTSCOPE.

In this project, the following key features were achieved by integrating Search in WIPO PATENTSCOPE and certain features of the WIPO CASE portal into the IPAS examiner interface:

  • After opening a patent file in IPAS, examiners are able to view the WIPO PATENTSCOPE/CASE patent family timeline and select any family members to view the dossier content including basic bibliographic data, list of published patent documents, citation data if provided by the WIPO CASE providing offices;
  • Inside a patent file in IPAS, examiners may perform one-click search using the WIPO PATENTSCOPE family information to identify and rank the family members that have the best IPC symbols matching with the IPC of the patent file. The result is automatically saved as a search strategy of the file;
  • Inside a patent file in IPAS, examiners may also perform searches in WIPO PATENTSCOPE, using one or several combined criteria extracted from the file, such as keywords of the invention title, applicant name(s), inventor name(s), IPC symbols and date range of filing, publication or priorities. Results can be saved as search strategies of the file;
  • For more advanced features in WIPO CASE (notification, etc.), examiners are able to open the WIPO CASE portal via a URL.

These new features will be made available at IP offices using the new version of IPAS-Cloud and participating according to the terms and conditions of the WIPO CASE system.
